The combined departments of Community Relations and Events & Special Projects build strong relationships and connections between the University and the greater Charlotte community through events, partnerships, outreach, and civic initiatives.
The Office of Community Relations functions to unite the University with the community by engaging in outreach efforts that promote communication, foster understanding, and address area need. The office’s responsibilities include planning the annual Chancellor’s Speaker Series, hosting nationally recognized speakers to the community for thought-provoking conversations; coordinating the annual Giving Green campaign, encouraging faculty and staff to support the community with their time and talent; and overseeing the University’s partnership with the Governor’s Village Schools.
The Office of Events & Special Projects initiates, plans, and implements strategic events and projects that play a key role in building pride in and communicating every aspect of excellence of the University. The staff of event managers plan and organize the Chancellor’s major events on campus including receptions to honor special guests; groundbreakings and dedication ceremonies for new buildings; donor recognition events; commemorations of exceptional achievements and awards; and the University’s five annual Commencement ceremonies.
